AI in the TN Budget 2026-27: What's Stated, What's Not

AI in the Tamil Nadu Budget 2026–27: What Is Stated and What Isn't Tamil Nadu's new government presented its first Budget, for 2026–27, on 5 August 2026. Finance Minister N. Marie Wilson framed it around welfare, financial discipline, and the empowerment of women, youth, students and the elderly. Four items in it involve artificial intelligence: Arivagam, an AI and innovation city with an AI university; SPEED, an AI-enabled online planning approval system; an AI-driven e-governance component inside a larger urban mission; and an Intelligent Transport Management System. This piece sets out what the Budget says about each of the four, what money is attached to them, where those figures sit against the rest of the Budget, and what the reporting leaves unstated.
